Even with disputants who enter mediation cautiously, suspiciously, and firmly entrenched in their positions, success in mediation can be transformative, thus shifting the emotional field of the participants and improving functional differentiation. Having been altered by the experience, they are better prepared for the future and their lives will be positively affected. Even with partial agreements, participants can experience some success in negotiating agreements. Partial agreements provide an experience of cooperation and understanding between the parties, and this can set the tone for further cooperation and success, especially if the participants will be involved with each other in the future.
All became anxiety binders whereby emotional attachments created positional stances, distracting them from interestbased negotiations. Completing this procedure separately with each subgroup assists me in establishing a relational connection with the disputants and the attorneys, while effectively managing the beginning stage of the mediation process.
